Review Wiener Zeitung

“This is especially true for the recording of David Haroutunian (violin), Sofya Melikyan (piano) and Mikayel Hakhnazaryan (cello). The Armenian trio has enough agility to never falter even in sharp melody curves, it masters avalanches of notes with bravura and Delicacy and proves gripping bite not least in the dark-glowing scherzo. It’s a pleasure to have this album – all the more so because the view of the beauty of this music (also for the Third Piano Trio represented here) doesn’t fall into your lap.”

OUT NOW!

OUT NOW!

Despite the nasty virus, we musicians won’t ever stop doing what we love the most!
Our very first album is out today, Brahms Piano Trios with the loveliest people.
It is a new beginning of very old friendship, and this particular collaboration feels like a need, in this troubled time in our motherland Armenia, that we will undoubtedly overcome very soon.

About

“The Armenian Trio has such skill in never slipping even in high melodic turns, mastering an avalanche of notes with bravura and subtlety and, no less important, displaying breathtaking poignancy in the blazing dark scherzo. This recording is a great joy…”

Wiener Zeitung, 18.01.2022

Three Armenian musicians who have known each other since childhood are fulfilling a common dream by joining forces to form a piano trio.
They are united by a great desire to explore and expand the chamber music repertoire together, as well as mutual respect and friendship.

Having left their home country to study at prestigious international centers, such as New York, Paris, London and Basel, all three have established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians on European stages.

Pianist Sofya Melikyan, performs as a soloist with various European orchestras and has built a loyal audience particularly in Spain.

The activities of versatile violinist David Haroutunian, cover a wide spectrum from classical music to traditional Armenian or Latin American music and contemporary music. He lives and works in Paris.

Mikayel Hakhnazaryan, cellist of the renowned Kuss Quartet is a chamber musician based in Berlin.

The three musicians have performed in the world’s greatest concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, and the Berlin Philharmonie, with partners such as Mischa Maïsky, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Kim Kashkashian, Paul Meyer, David Geringas, Paul Badura-Skoda and others.

Although one might expect they would embark on their journey together with the great works of Armenian composers, they decided to delve into the rich world of piano trios by Johannes Brahms.

This music touches the heart from the very first notes in almost all of his works, having a strong, magnetic effect on listeners and performers alike.

“This feeling was necessary for us, it gave us even more confidence, and it strengthened the desire to find our own voice through this incredible music,” say the musicians.

The first recording of Johannes Brahms’ Trios Nos. 2 and 3, is the beginning of a series of recordings of Brahms’ chamber works, was released in 2021. The album received critical acclaim in France, Germany, Spain as well as other European countries.
It was presented on France Musique as a “Disque du jour” (CD of the day).
